A slightly chilly but pleasant Winters Pre wedding shoot with this lovely couple!

I met up with Janine and Graham in Johns of Instow cafe, for a warm cup of coffee and a good chat about their upcoming wedding day plans. We were also joined by their little baby boy who kept us entertained with on hand baby sitter....Grahams Mum.

Instow Beach is such a wonderful place anytime of the year and there are so many different areas to use a backdrops. Janine and Graham were awesome to work with, it was really easy to capture their natural smiles and laughter from the start. They even found time for some tug of war with a seaweed covered rope. Love it when couples are up for a bit of fun on a pre wedding shoot.

I had great fun with these guy and I'm looking forward to their wedding this weekend!

Taking look back over my favourite wedding images from 2017

Well, what an amazing Christmas break I've had at home with my family being all festive, watching Christmas movies, making mince pies and eating far too much yummy food! Hey who doesn't...right? Oh and I caught up with some good old friends too!

This got me thinking about all the wonderful weddings that I captured last year and the lovely couples who have spent their first Christmas together as Mr & Mrs. So I decided to take a look back through my 2017 pre wedding and wedding photography and create a collection of my favourite images of the year.

Aww, so many wonderful and funny memories. It's times like this that make me realise how much I love doing what I do.

So now that I am feeling refreshed and recharged, let's do this ...... Hello 2018!

Looking forward into the coming year, we have some amazing weddings with great couples already booked in. But some dates are still available, so if you are planning a wedding in North Devon this year then give us bell, drop me a line or pop into the studio because I would love to hear all about your wedding plans and see how best I can work with you to give you some incredable wedding photography.

A Black Tie Summer Wedding | Braunton Church | Filleigh, North Devon

Wow!! What can I say about this wedding.... 13 bridesmaids and 6 groomsmen.... Beth and Kane’s wedding was simply stunning and a laugh a minute.

The bridal preparations started with Beth and all her ladies at one of the suites in Saunton Sands Hotel. You would think that having so many ladies getting ready in the same place would be carnage. But everything, even the hair and make up was scheduled with military timing. I believe this is a family trait. The kids kept us entertained and made us laugh continuously.  Especially when Beth and Kane’s son Vinny fell asleep next to an empty Prosecco bottle. I have no idea who put the bottle beside him!

Once the ladies where prepped and ready it was time to catch up with the guys. With The Black Horse pub in Braunton being right next door to St Brannocks Church, it wasn’t hard to track them down. Kane and all the groomsmen although very smartly dressed in black suits with bow ties still found time to mess around and have a bit of fun before heading over to the church.

The church ceremony was beautiful with a couple of readings from friends and a lot of giggles from Beth and Kane. Even Scott the best man was a little mischievous. (take a look at the pics below) After the ceremony  Beth and Kane walked through quite possibly the longest line confetti I've ever photographed.

It was then a drive to Castle Hill at Filleigh where the fabulous attentive staff from the Brend Hotel outdoor catering team, Top Notch Catering were ready to receive the Bride and Groom along with their guests. One thing’s for sure Top Notch Catering really know how to provide a 5 star service and their food is always delicious. The Marquee was erected on the grounds by Sound Events in front of West Wing round the garden fountain. I’m still surprised that no one ended up getting wet feet.

The speeches were extremely heartfelt as well as hilarious. To kick them off Beth’s Dad spat out his teeth at the beginning of his speech and the best man did numerous funny things to entertain everyone. In the evening I had some time to shoot some pics with just Beth and Kane around the breath taking Castle Hill grounds, before heading back for the evening reception.

As the evening guests were gathering and drinks were steadily flowing, Kane and the boys had a quick boat race before the first dance and afterwards Kanes nephew got up and performed a very impressive rap. From here on in everyone got very merry. There were some interesting shapes being cut on the dance floor and I got knighted by the Father of the bride .... I'm very honoured!

Castle Hill is one of my favourite wedding venues. As a wedding photographer I think you could do a wedding here every weekend and get different images each time as this venue has an abundance of photo opportunities. Take a look through the selection on wedding images below from Beth and Kanes day, let me know what you think.

Wedding in the field | Picnic in the garden | Party in the barn | Hartland, North Devon

Back in August this year I was privileged to photograph the beautiful wedding of Clare and Ben. These guys had planned and thought about every fine detail about their wedding which made it so very personal and touching and very them! A few days earlier Clare and Ben had the official marriage license bit done but today was all about them and their family and friends celebrating their wonderful day at Clare's family home in Hartland.

The day began for Ben with breakfast in the garden along with a few family members before they all set about transforming the garden to accommodate the wedding guests. Be it moving around haystacks, arranging the table and chairs or setting up and dressing the tables, everybody mucked in.

Meanwhile inside the house Clare and her bridesmaids were having a bit of pampering, having  their hair and make up done. Once Clare was ready her attention turned to setting up and  dressing the wedding cake with fresh fruits and berries. Ben and Clare had made the cake themselves. It was a Guinness chocolate cake with marscapone filling but each tier was a different flavour. Salted caramel in one tier, gooseberry in the second and raspberry and cherry in the third. It looked mouth wateringly good.

With everything now set for the day it was time for both the bride and groom to get themselves dressed and ready in different ends of the house. The guests were starting to arrive and make their way through the garden and out onto the field behind where the wedding ceremony would take place. The ceremony was short but beautiful with heartfelt words spoken about the bride and groom and a lovely personal touch from Joe Bens brother who got up to sing a song that Ben had written himself.

The weather although grey and a bit breezy it was kind to us which meant that the wedding breakfast went ahead in the garden. Ben and Clare had put a couple of picnic hampers on each table filled with food for their guests with the added personal touch of that in each hamper there was a surprise gift of favourite cheese, wine, biscuits and beer for their guests. And the personal touch didn't stop there. The Best Men were given pen knives that Ben had personally carved and they were expertly sharpened by Ben's Dad Stuart! Remember the wedding cake made by Clare and Ben well they not only cut the cake but they served it to all of their guests too. And yes I had could I say no? I had the gooseberry filling and OMG .... it was out of this world!!

After a good fill of food the drink was steadily flowing, time to get the walking bus to the neighbouring barn to carry on with the celebrations. The barn had been adorned with twinkling fairy lights and the space was dived by a string curtain of origami cranes. Clare and Ben had hand folded each individual crane, hundreds of them! Outdoor games had been organised inflatable dueling and sack racing and of course being the competitive pair that they are Ben and Clare were the first ones to put the games to the test.

This was one of the best most selfless weddings I've been to. Its obvious to see how deeply in love and crazy Clare and Ben our. But equally that love extends to their family and friends and it shines through in all the tiny personal and meaningful details of their day. I am honoured to have been a part of this amazing day. Below is a collection of images from their day, I would love to know what you think.

Ilfracombe | Summer Wedding Photographer

Well what a wedding this was! I had the best time photographing Alice and Tobys incredible Tunnels Beaches wedding.

I arrived at a lovely B&B where Toby and his family had just had breakfast and were now sat quite happily chatting around the breakfast table. Everyone was really calm and chilled. Not too far away at The Habit Boutique Rooms Alice, her Mum and two bridesmaids were having their hair styled and make up done, along with a couple of glasses of bubbles.

The morning went by really quickly and before I knew it, I was at Tunnels Beaches waiting for Toby and his family to arrive. With the groom and his men all dressed and ready we headed down to the beach for some 'cool' boy shots, before returning to the venue to welcome the guests to wait for Alice and the bridal party. Alice was fashionably late.

With the warm sun shinning, Alice took her Dads arm and proceeded to walk down the aisle. As Toby saw Alice for the first time he was overcome with emotions and couldn't take his eyes off his beautiful bride. It was a lovely service celebrated with meaningful readings by family and friends. Afterwards with a glass of pimms in hand the bride and groom mingled around the guests taking in the atmosphere.

Tunnels Beaches is an awesome venue for photos and blessed with some glourous sunshine I took Alice and Toby down to the beach and captured some cracking images. As the weather was so nice the first dance was done outside with the sun going down over the sea. Now the party atmosphere was growing, guests were toasting marshmallows on the fire pit and everyone was dancing and having the best time.

I feel honoured to have shared Alice and Tobys day with them and their family and friends. Take a look through their gorgeous summer wedding, let me know what you think.

North Devon | St George's Church, Georgeham | Wedding Photographer

This was my first time photographing a wedding at Hallsannery House and it is a gorgeous venue for weddings.

Both the bride and groom stayed here the night before, so on my arrival on the morning of the wedding I found Simon downstairs in the kitchen having breakfast whilst Lucy and the bridal party were upstairs, drinking cups of tea and having their hair and make-up done. The mother of the bride and bridesmaids were on hand to help Lucy with her bridal preparations and getting into her beautiful wedding dress. Precious moments that will be remembered. The groom and his groomsmen on the other hand, once they were dressed and ready the boys found time for a spot of table tennis before heading over to the church.

The wedding ceremony took place at St George's Church in the rural village of Georgeham. This was a lovely service especially with the sounds of the Barnstaple Male Voice Choir resinating throughout the church, definitely a goose bumps moment!

Although the weather was a bit grey for June, it didn't dampen the spirits and once back at Hallsannery House the wedding celebrations were under way. Lucy and Simon had asked to have couple of photos of them in the house with the stunning staircase and amongst the bamboo forest in the garden. With the vibrant green bamboo as a backdrop this was one of my favourite shots. I hope you enjoy looking through this lovely Summer wedding!

Fabulous Wedding Celebration Photography | The Brend Hotel

Matthew and Peaches got married in Sidmouth at The Victoria Hotel with close family and friends to celebrate the wedding service. A couple days later the bride and groom held a big wedding celebration at the newly refurbished Park Hotel in Barnstaple. I was privileged to be invited along to capture the evening for them.

On arrival of their guests Matthew and Peaches greeted them individually and slowly mingled around everyone soaking in the atmosphere.  The casino tables were set up and the bride and groom had a few games before we headed over to Rock Park for a few intimate couple shots. Back at The Park Hotel the drinks were flowing and the party atmosphere was growing.  Fun and laughter filled the evening as well as a variety of shapes being cut on the packed dance floor.

Take a look below at a few of the highlights from their evening.....

Westward Ho! North Devon | Wedding Photographer

A few weeks ago I had a great day photographing Lisa and Jays wedding at The pier House, Westward Ho! North Devon.

The day started with bridal preparations for Lisa and the bridal party at The Commodore Hotel on Instow Beach. The morning was relaxed and full of laughter. Purple was the chosen colour for the day because Lisa loves purple and what better way to get to the venue then in a purple Rolls Royce.

I made my way over to The Pier House to get some shots of Jay, his best man and the ushers ahead of the brides arrival. After the beautiful service Lisa and Jay invited their family and friends outside to the lawn for group photos. The bride and groom then took a walk along the coastal path where I captured some shots of them with the stunning North Devon coastline in the background.

After the wedding breakfast Lisa and Jay mingled around the guests soaking up the atmosphere and the evening celebrations took to full swing with The Garden Club and a photo booth for entertainment.

Here's a montage of their day....enjoy!

Stunning Instow Wedding Photography

A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to be invited along as Mariana and Rob's wedding photographer. They chose to get married in St John the Baptist Church in Instow, where family and close friends gathered to enjoy the ceremony.

Just a stones throw from the church is the unique Devon farmhouse, Instow Barton, this was the setting for arrival drinks and canapés. Mariana and Rob relaxed and mingled around the guests here before we headed off for some intimate couple shots at Instow Beach and Tapeley Park.

After creating some stunning images with Mariana and Rob we went to rejoin the wedding guests at Bishops Nympton Parish Hall for the wedding breakfast, speeches and lots of fun and laughter.

Take a look a some of their images below.....

Gorgeous Wedding Photography

Emma and Mikes beautiful wedding service at St. Peters Parish Church in Fremington was followed by some intimate couple shots at Fremington Manor and quay, where I captured some tremendous shots. Their wedding reception was held at Cedars Inn in Barnstaple with great speeches and dancing.

Winter | Wedding Photographer | South Molton Devon

We are going back to February for Davina and Daniel's wedding day, which kicked off our wedding season. I have know Dan from back in day when we played in a band together, so it was truly an honour to photograph his wedding.

The day began for Davina in The Oak Room in Barnstaple with a relaxed morning of pampering and hair styling with her bridal party. Then it was back to her family home to get changed into her gorgeous wedding dress and to get her son Theo all dressed up in his little smart outfit.

Whislt the girls finished getting ready, I headed to South Molton Church to meet up with Dan for some photos with him and his best men, who scrubbed up well in dark grey three piece suits. The church service whilst serious had many elements of fun and was enjoyed be all family and friends and South Molton Church has an amazing stained glass window.

After the church service everyone made their way to the reception venue, whilst I whisked Davina and Dan off to a woodland area for their intimate couple shots. The light was absolutely perfect in the woods and I got some stunning shots.

Take a look at a small selection of their images below, enjoy.

Bright & Beautiful Wedding Photography | Swimbridge Church & Jubilee Hall

We are going back to Summer 2016 for todays blog.

With blue skies and sunshine it was a beautiful summers day, perfect for celebrating Fiona and Josh's wedding with their daughter Poppy. The wedding was small and relaxed but this didn't stop the day being filled with fun and laughter.

I started my day by capturing Fiona's bridal preparations at their home, then proceeded to head to Swimbridge Church to catch up with the groom for a few fun photos, before Fiona and the bridal party made their arrival in a very stylish vintage bus.

Fiona and Josh's wanted Poppy to be a big part of their day too. So at the beginning of a lovely service Poppy carried a balloon down the aisle which read "Daddy, Here comes Mummy" A moment that Fiona and Josh will cherish forever.

After the service Fiona and Josh mingled with family and friends before the wedding breakfast. Thereafter, I whisked them away to capture them both playing pooh sticks off the bridge and as requested a photo of them outside the local post office as this has special childhood memories for Fiona.

I captured their first dance and shortly afterwards the evening celebrations got into full swing with an energetic ceilidh.

Take a look at a selection of the images from their day, I hope you enjoy them.

Northcote Manor | Wedding Photography

When it's cold and windy outside, there's nothing like a good Winter wedding to make you feel warm and cosy.

Leah and Charlie got married in the country house charm of Northcote Manor, Umberleigh. The wedding party braved the out doors for photos, Leah and her bridesmaids were warm and toasty in their pink fur coats whilst Charlie in his forces uniform showed no sign of being cold. Back inside the manor, mulled wine and canapés by the fire were ready and waiting to warm everyone up.

Check out a selection of some of their photos below. If you are getting married and looking for a photographer to capture your perfect day call the studio on 01271 325966 or click on the link below.

The Great Barn in Exeter is an amazing venue for wedding photography and this was the venue for Amber and Ross's wedding day.

Amber and Ross both got ready at The Great Barn for their wedding. With the bubbles flowing Amber had her hair and make up done with her six bridesmaids, two flower girls and lots of giggles. Meanwhile Ross, his best man and two ushers got ready and then came out to do some dancing in the rain before heading into the barn.

After the ceremony we managed to get some confetti shots outside and a few group photos. But alas as the rain got heavier Amber and Ross opted to move in doors to continue with their photos and mingle with their guests, with canapé and the soothing music performed by Sorrelli Strings.

Yep the weather was grey and dull but a little bit of rain wasn't going to halt this wedding. Amber and Ross were prepared! When the time was right they donned their wellies got the dogs and made their way across the gardens for some beautiful couple shots.

The Brend Hotel | Wedding Photography | North Devon

Back in May I had the pleasure of photographing Sarah & Lee's wedding day.

Sarah began her wedding day at her home, by having her hair and make up done. Along with her two bridesmaids and her daughter Freya who was a very happy and smiley little flower girl. After the bridal preparation photos I caught up with Lee, his best man and his pageboy Jake at The Park Hotel, Barnstaple for a few photos. Jake had an important role as it was his responsibility to look after the wedding rings. He had also chosen to do a reading for his Mum and Dad during the ceremony to which he did a superb job.

After the ceremony we crossed over to Rock Park which was the setting for all the family and friends group photos. Here I got some fabulous photos of Sarah and Lee with their children and the pink blossom being in bloom made for some cracking bride and groom shots.

Check out a selection of some of the photos below. If you are getting married and looking for a photographer to capture your perfect day call the studio on 01271 325966 or click on the link below.

Umberleigh Country Ways | Wedding Photographer

After meeting up with Ross and Lottie, I finally managed to convince them that I was their wedding photographer and not Sprocket. Ross and Lottie invited Sprocket along to the wedding but they were slightly disappointed when I didn't bring him along with me. Don't get me wrong he loves a good wedding and he's an obedient dog but I think Ross and Lottie would have given him so much attention, that I wouldn't have been able to get on with the job in hand. Plus I think they may have wanted to keep him too!

Ross and Lottie's wedding was such a chilled day and it was clear to see they were elated to be getting married and to share their experience with family and friends. As I have said before Country Ways in Umberleigh was the perfect setting for their wedding especially with Ross being a tree surgeon surrounded by the woodlands made for some sensational photos. Also being a tree surgeon means you have a chain saw so ........ how else do you cut your wedding cake?

I hope you love these photos as much as I do.

Feel free to share them with anyone you know who is getting married or maybe looking for a wedding photographer.

The Sandy Cove Hotel in Berrynarbor near Ilfracombe was the perfect setting for Amy and Marcus' wedding, with stunning views across the sea. This is one of my favourite venues to photograph.

The whole bridal party got ready at Sandy Cove, where the ceremony and reception took place. Amy looked beautiful in her wedding dress accompanied by her five bridesmaids in vibrant blue bridesmaid dresses. For Amy and Marcus their wedding day was about being with their family and friends and also having some fun too.

Check out a selection of some of the photos below. If you are getting married and looking for a photographer to capture your perfect day call the studio on 01271 325966 or click on the link below.

In September last year I photographed Emma and Gerrard’s wedding.

Preparations began at Charley’s Angels in Paiges Lane, Barnstaple (bizarrely above my old studio) for Emma and her bridesmaids. Here all the girls had their hair and make up done before they headed back to Emma’s Dads to get ready. I then made my way over to the Best Man’s house to capture some preparation shots of Gerrard and the boys, who were all surprisingly calm.

After seeing the boys I then caught up with Emma and the bridesmaids and we all headed over to the very beautiful St Mary’s church in Pilton, Barnstaple. The ceremony was emotional and all of their family and friends shared the event with them. During the signing of the register some acoustic music was played by local band Head Over Feet also friends of Emma and Gerrard.

The reception was held at Cedars Inn, Barnstaple and while all the guests travelled to the venue I whisked Emma and Gerrard away to do some photos of just the two of them. They wanted to stay local so we headed down to the River Taw and along the Tarka Trail before proceeding onto the venue. Here we shot a few more photos with family and friends and then everyone sat down for speeches and the wedding breakfast.

In the Evening lots of guests were up and dancing to music provided by local band Sonic Fusion, who Gerrard used to play bass guitar for. So it was quite fitting when Gerrard got up and played a few songs with the band. A superb evening was had by all.

Hope you enjoy the photos below.

Feel free to share them with anyone you know who is getting married or maybe looking for a wedding photographer.

Claire and Seans Wedding all took place at The Ash Barton Estate near Braunton. This venue was a new one for me and what a beautiful setting for the perfect day.
